Berg Eltz Castle

Brad, Preston, and I recently went to our first castle together as a family while Brad's dad was in town.  This particular castle is called Berg Eltz and is a true fairy tale castle that has been here for over 850 years.  It was about an hour drive away from our home and we had the opportunity for a visit on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon.  

Here is a short synopsis of the history of this particular castle:

It was during the 9th and 13th century that there were the development of medival castles.  The Eltz Castle is the epitome of German knight's castle. The Eltz Castle was built in a strategic position: it was built in a way that the Mosel - has always been one of the most important trade routes of the German Empire - with the Eifel and the fertile May Field Association.  The plant and its surroundings form a harmonious unit: encircled on three sides by the River Elz, stands the fortress out on an up to 70 m high rock elliptical head - the foundation of the entire castle. The builders were based on the architecture to the natural conditions.  Thus, the sometimes unusual layouts of individual rooms created.
She remained over the centuries of family ownership and is undamaged.  Its history is rich with myths and events, important personalities and great art.

We had a great time exploring Berg Eltz and the history it has to offer.  This is just one of the many castles in Germany and we hope to visit many more.  We had a great time with Brad's dad and took him to as many German restaurants as he could eat.  

We also recently found out that Brad was selected for Major and also a school select.  This means that sometime next year he will pin on Major then will go to Majors school sometime after our tour in Germany.  A school slot is very competitive and only the top 5% officers selected for Major get to attend school.  Brad works countless hours and is very dedicated to his work.  Preston and I couldn't be more proud of him and his accomplishments thus far.  He continues to amaze me everyday!!
