Over Columbus Day weekend, I got the opportunity to travel to Salzburg, Austria and cross another item off my bucket list... Do the Sound of Music Tour!! Oh yes folks, you better believe it, singing and all! It was wonderful. My friend Sabrina and her daughter Adrianna decided we should take a road trip to see beautiful Austria. It only took us 9.5 hours, but we made it. Both babies did great, thanks to iPad mini's and a lot of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Little Einstein. Preston even got to try a McDonald's hamburger, it mini size pieces. :)
We started our journey on a Friday morning (earlier than Sabrina wanted to depart, but we arrived by mid to late afternoon). Below is our documented journey!

These next 3 photos were in the walkplatz in downtown Salzburg; also known as their city center. The first 2 photos are of the Dom Cathedral. We were able to go inside and see the beauty! |
This is the gorgeous views from our sweet little hotel called Bloberger Hof. It was just outside of the city center in a peaceful beautiful area. Aren't these views amazing?? I really felt spoiled and lucky to have this opportunity to go here for the weekend.
And the pics below begin the journey of the Sound of Music Tour which lasted 5 hours. Our friend Vilma also accompanied us with her 4 children as well.
It was amazing and you learned so much about the entire VonTrapp family and the history behind the movie.Additionally, the movie directors were experts at editing this film because the house shown below, as we all remember, was never actually used on the inside for filming. They used another house. Very interesting. Additionally, if you can recall, I always thought there was a road leading up to the back of the house that Max drove into too. Well as you can see, there is no road over here. Tricky tricky.

This is a historic fortress that dates back to the Roman time. We didn't get to tour the inside but it's a beautiful sight from far away. |
 |
This is the gazebo that Leizel (spelling??) did her dance in when it was raining. It actually is not located near the house at all! |

Me and sweet P posing in the gorgeous fall weather. |

After driving for 45 minutes, we stopped here to take pictures of these breathtaking views. I am pretty sure the pictures do not do it justice. It was beautiful and we had amazing weather throughout the weekend to enjoy it. Preston needed a mid morning snooze but I dragged him off the bus with me to take a moment for a photo. |

This picture and the two below are the chapel where Maria and Captain VonTrapp actually married. There was an actual wedding ceremony on while we were there! :) |
The next several photos are of Preston and I enjoying these awesome views and fall foliage. He loved sitting in the grass playing with the leaves. I believe he even tried to eat the leaves and found them not so tasty.
 |
Adrianna is very concerned why Preston is eating the leaves. :) |
 |
I had to do the infamous pose of "the hills are alive.... ". Although I was not up top a cliff this was a pretty good place to spin and twirl! |
 |
I am standing at the gate entrance where Maria is teaching the children to sing and the circle fountain is in the background where they danced. It is hard to tell since I am at the top of the steps and the movie was filmed from the opposite direction. These are called the Mirabelle Gardens. |
And little panda finally tanked out!! It was a long, but enjoyable day and I feel so lucky to have been able to drive to Austria for the weekend and experience Salzburg. I only wish Brad could have been there with us. Meanwhile, I know everyone back at home was in Dallas for the OU/Texas game. I think I had the much better weekend. We stopped in Garmisch, Germany on our way home to cut up the drive. It is a military resort that has a ton of activities for families and in the winter time you can snow ski. We are planning our family vacation there when Brad gets home!!
